    of course when I was a kid we were poor there were no fancy nets and mason jars. You caught those things with your hand and put them in an empty Mayo jar (Mayo not Mirical Whip you heathens)

    Empty peanut butter containers here:emoji_grin: I used to lovingly poke holes in the top and carry a few around with me all night (they needed a buddy, of course) and then let them go once I had toted them around for an hour or so, as I was afraid they would wither in captivity.

    i went to a butterfly place a few years ago. the 'older' ones were gnarly af and couldn't fly any longer. we were advise to step around carefully

    Kids catch lightning bugs in jars then release them, not kill them. Especially in today's environmentally friendly age in which we humans have become that much more conscious about the duty we have as keepers of the planet. If I caught any of my cousins or my nephews doing that they would so get it.
