Yes, there are. But the honor aren't that hard really (they seem easier than when I was in HS, and one teacher told me the AP ones are more on par with what my generation had).

I graduated 1986 so it was a while ago, way before half of you were even born.

And yes @morweeg this actually happened. We watched Roman Holiday and at the time the wiki page mentioned that Strike Witches had a parody episode. I can't find the exact one that was likely up but there was a big edit war and some weeb really wanted that to be included.

i took a film class at my community college as an elective when i considered journalism for like 35 seconds because it was described as an actual educational analysis class like yours. but it was literally going in to watch a movie once a week at 5pm, you were encouraged to bring in dinner and eat while you watched, then leaving when it ended and talking about it on the class message board for the rest of the week. the final exam was breaking off into groups (again, on the message board) and each group selecting one movie to show that had blah blah elements we learned and discussed. super fun, not exactly a class though, and definitely not like you're describing, lol. but then again... community college.

the "classics" we watched were like... citizen kane, network, slingblade, apocalypse now, the graduate, and then the final exam student chosen movies were obviously just people's favorite movies that they BSed their way into fitting into the pretend syllabus.

i'm most jealous of the ceramics class though. i took a bunch of photo classes and stuff, but they were riddled with the holier-than-thou academy kids so i just stuck to my word-related "art" classes like creative writing and lit.
