    oh my god, i've never been happier to see @TissueHime 's "new thread" post....that was ridiculous...also, looks like I missed a crazy hot night by going to bed at 9pm.

    I think it definitely is fascinating, but it's also not something that's particularly surprising. Humans have an unusually strong desire to fit in, and to be useful. And also to brag a bit while we're at it. :p Regarding @leafs4_cup's example of the money tree, while I imagine the person who found it wouldn't say anything at first, eventually the desire to brag about it--to share this thing they found--would doubtless overcome their desire for greed. We like to tell people we've found something clever (I think there's BBC Sherlock episode that mentions this phenomenon?). We'd just tell one or two close friends, of course (or the forum peeps and lurkers), not the whole world, but enough.

    I think also that sharing mturk information isn't a zero sum game. I doubt there's anyone on the forum (with the exception of maybe @Kadauchi, you are some kind of saint, probably) that hasn't benefitted in more from being here and sharing/receiving information than they would have without it. Especially if it's surveys, where you only need to catch it once to start with and then who cares who else fetches it. And with batches, there might be less for you, but at some other point someone else will return the favour and post a different batch.

    The social aspects of the forum probably help some of us stay sane too, lol. ...And drives others closer to insanity, but who's counting.

    I lost it working in the food industry for too long. Getting stiffed enough times does crazy things to one's brain. Especially being empathetic and a people pleaser... Not a good combo nowadays.
