While I dislike most piracy because some people think they're entitled to free entertainment, it's totally justified in this case.

 

Is there not a place to rent books?

 

How do you rent a digital book? Do they just make your copy self-implode when your time's up?

 

Personally, I absolutely agree with you. If I were still in college I'd be pirating the hell out of books. I even told Kiddo today that once he's in college if he can find cheaper ways to acquire books, I'm fine with that. But that I won't teach him how, as his parent, kinda feel like he needs to figure that out on his own, lol.

 

Actually, yes. They only let you access it through a web browser.

If you need one of those books that comes with an online service for taking tests then it's not really good to rent because you'll still have to buy the service for that semester. It may end up costing more.

 

Better then losing a book you paid for.

 

Get that one extension that saves entire copies of web pages.

It's a digital book. So probably not.

But that makes the humongous price tag even worse. I mean, what the heck? No actual book needs to be that expensive, much less a digital book that we probably can't even access after the class is over (as I believe it's only accessed in the software he uses for the class).

Really, this is a symptom of why college is unaffordable for so many and why so many graduate with huge debt. NO book needs to be that expensive.

 

I had one that was in Flash format. Textbook companies are dinosaurs.
