    Is it now? I ran ethernet throughout my apartment.

    Wired is always better if it is possible but modern wireless is okay

    My modem is in my living room, my office is in the loft, I'd need like a super duper long cable, I'd have to run it about 18 feet in the air and then about 40 feet in distance.

    Ideally wireless should only be used on devices that are mobile. This includes phones, non docked laptops, sex toys, and tablets ofc.

    Yeah, the window units work better, and are cheaper. The only time I'd recommend them is if you need the portability for whatever reason, like you want to be able to move them from room to room without cooling your whole house. Or if you don't have a window that can fit one properly.
