04/04 - Twinsies Tuesday!

It's just a little cheap one. My gf got it for me at some point. Pretty much like this:

I've had it for a couple years, and the buttons sometimes don't want to work, and the metal keeps wanting to fall off...I'll probably order a new one in a few months whenever it finally dies.

 

I am going to go through my kitchen this week and weekend to see what I have already that is good. Then I am going to declutter. Once that is done I am going shopping

 

The best suggestion I can offer is not to go to the store with a list. Stick to the fresh food areas like produce and meat and leave the middle sections with all the convenience foods alone. Buy what looks good and is a decent price and then cook with what you have. You don't need a recipe just a good understanding of what proteins, carbs, fats, and spices go well together. Stock up on seasonings as well as that is what really makes or breaks a good meal. Underseasoning food should be a criminal offense lol. Oh and buy a crockpot and use it extensively ...

I'm going to have to disagree with the no list part of this. Find a recipe that you want to try then only buy those ingredients. Next time you want to cook, find a new recipe, make new list, make new recipe. Rinse. repeat.

 

I just finished reading nutrition for dummies....I love the for dummies books....I learned a lot to be honest. I also just ordered cooking for dummies. I figure I will also spend some time playing around in the kitchen once it is organized. I love to cook I just need to get organized and make myself do it after work...maybe prep stuff on weekends for the week ahead. My kids and I all love vegetables and fruits so that isn't a problem and we all prefer turkey or chicken to red meat also

I like to check for what's on special at the few shops I frequent too. I plan my recipes in advance (with some wiggle room cause I like a well stocked freezer/pantry) and make a list based off that after I've looked at whatever is on special/sale that week and factoring that in. It's one of the more relaxing parts of my week and I'm very Beautiful Mind with it. Matt went food shopping with me a couple times....we don't do that anymore.
