I crush my egg shells and bake them to add to the dog food and get my eggs almost entirely from folks I know here with chickens. (I'm in an egg club and everything haha!) I use all my veggie clippings and any trimmings/bones from meat to make stock so I have like 4 ziplocs full of those in the freezer at any given time. The idea of waste annoys me and since I like making things myself over store bought, I'll find a way to use everything in my kitchen like a weirdo.

Unless they've had meat in them or something that molded, ziplocs have been reusable for me since the 90s and before it was the thang to reuse stuff. My old roomies used to get pissed that I had bags hanging everywhere drying. I still use them now, but not as often. I have some bags I toss if I have to store stuff like a turkey carcass that I scored for thanksgiving and need to boil down. Those get thrown away after one use just to be careful and avoid food poisoning.

I worked for the Port of Oakland (California) in 1999 and that was the first time I ever heard of a company wanting to go "sustainable." Was pretty cool to see such a ginormous company (they run the Port, the Oakland Airport and control a lot of commercial real estate around the port, so they're way bigger than people think) go sustainable. I learned a lot then, and a lot more about what was happening to the environment due to plastics.

Damn. That was 20 years ago now. Frack I'm old.

 

I save ziplock bags too. There's always use for them. Organizing little nuts and bolts. Using them as humidity domes for seedlings. Drysacks for camping. the possibilities are endless
