    They aren't even comparable though Star Trek is sci-fi and Star Wars is sci-fi fantasy... You will either like one or the other more depending on what genre you like more.

    It is more fair to compare star trek to other sci-fi shows like Battlestar Galactica and babylon 5.

    Kirk's 5 year mission was cut short so as to what else they dealt with who knows. But Kirk had first contact with the Romulans and dealt with Kahn Noonien Singh who is oft equated to Hitler. I think each Captain has had their challenges. I think Archer, Kirk and Janeway faced the most Unknowns while Picard and Sisko had a more diplomatic approach and wit to rely on.

    I'm a solid fan of both but watch a lot more Trek (there is also a lot more Trek to watch) but appreciate when there are real mathematical theories and science involved. The way I treat it is you can be a fan of both as long as you are appreciating them as what they are and not in the same sub-genre.
