Well, sorry if I came across rude. I just feel like if they aren't bothering anyone and they still come out to eat and bathe, then it's ok. They may be going through things they don't want to talk to you about. Their beds are their "safe" spots. I despise that saying lol but it's true especially for teens. Their beds and their rooms are really the only things they have to themselves. And beds are more comfortable than chairs or the floor!

My wife and I spent a couple of years of hell at my parents house. My mom is quite literally mentally ill, but we needed to do it because my wife wanted to do student teaching and I took the chance to start on my degree. My mother would literally go out of her way to make us uncomfortable. Doing things like taking pillows and blankets out of the living room, and saying we couldn't have any out there. Disallowing us to have phone/tablet chargers anywhere but our room, etc. Never shutting up when we were outside of her room (literally, this is not a joke).

I wound up just spending 2 years never leaving my room. When we moved into the house we're in now my wife was like "wow, you never leave your room". I was like, no, I am always out of my room. I never left my room at my mothers. Like two years made her forget what kind of habits I use to have, because I was so uncomfortable all of my habits changed.

Moral of the story? If your kids are uncomfortable, it might actually be your fault.
