i was being tongue and cheek well ok kanye should die just because he's a blight on existence but I agree with celebrity death mostly. except musicians. i think when you spend years playing someone's music you maybe identify with them more than maybe a random stranger.

Cobain was a tragic figure and the way that girl in your photography class acted wasn't much different than the generation before her reacted to Lennon's death. When someone you've never met touches your soul, it can be anguish that their voice has been silenced. There's also the whole holy shit I'm basically the same age thing for me. :(

It's hard to explain, I guess. Music is my life. I've been playing the drums since I was five. My uncle taught me piano when I was 8 and I learned guitar as a teen. Add to it, the music I listened to when going through the rough stuff growing up has stuck with me for a long time. I can listen to certain songs and have memories come to the surface because of them. Also, my weakness is 90's grunge and NIN/Tool. When Trent Reznor or Maynard Keenan die, I will probably be a trainwreck.

Me and all of his friends list advised him to go see H&O but I'm not sure what he ended up doing. It's kind of ironic because we were all saying we don't know how much longer H&O is gonna be around/touring.

I remember my best friend in school loving this song (and it was quite appropriate, he was a perfectionist)

I don't mean to upset or offend anyone but I really did like the Say Hello 2 Heaven Song but am totally unfamiliar with Chris Cornell but notice others are posting Soundgarden songs...was he the singer for Soundgarden? I would like to listen to more of his music

That's crazy. I read the news stories, he played the whole set and died suddenly sometime afterwards. He also had a drug problem on and off so that's probably what it was, but they probably won't tell us. It's a shame though when real talent is gone.

No, that's not true at all. I have extremely varied musical tastes and I can find music I like in just about any genre you can think of. Most days I'd rather listen to music than watch tv. I literally can't stand to be in a car without music, and I have a weird ability to memorize lyrics and remember them years and years later. But it's the music and the songs and the lyrics I get attached to, not the singer. The only singer I ever think about with any kind of sadness or regret for not seeing is Freddie Mercury but mostly from a missed opportunity to see one of the most talented people ever on this planet perform kind of stance.

Because some of us grew up listening or watching these musicians, singers, movie stars, sports figures, and they are a part of our life in one way or another, and sometimes it is like losing a family member or a best friend. They are people we are people, we all share the same emotions and we all live on this little ball in space called Earth. We are more connected than some might think, and when we experience loss in any fashion, it hurts...

i listen to (and badly play piano and guitar) everything but rap so all the recent deaths have just been punch after punch for me. I mean c'mon.
Bowie (who have you seen do Hurt with Reznor? It's brilliant) Prince, Merle Haggard, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Glen Frey. That's just in the last year. So talk about being a trainwreck jesus!
