Turking is essentially the same as any other efficiency based job. Greater efficiency leads to greater earnings. If you're a house painter and still using the old 4" brush and 1-gallon paint cans to paint the room, you're not as efficient as the guy who buys 5-gallon cans and uses one of those power rollers or sprayers. That person is going to get more done than you in the same amount of time, and therefore probably make more money. The difference is the power guy has to purchase the tools to increase his efficiency. In Turking, those tools are all free and available to anyone who wants to use them.

It is what you make of it, and anyone who calls your income into question without using the same tools and efforts is not to be taken seriously.

Your point is made, but the painting analogy is WAY off. As a painter myself I mean. ;)

Really? The house painter analogy is my go-to for damn near anything. Damn, I gotta come up with something new, then.

Somewhat unrelated, I looked to see what the first job I saw in my area was on Indeed.com. This came up:

This company is a former subsidiary of a chemical company in this area that made Agent Orange for the Vietnam War in the 1960s. The company had several tanks of chemical waste (mixed with dioxin) that it sold to a waste oil business owner in the 1970s. Said person then offered a service of spraying land property with a substance that would reduce dust being kicked up. Several residents in Times Beach, Missouri (near St. Louis) bought the service. Of course, said substance was the chemical waste, which contained dioxin, which lead to the US's worst dioxin exposure in history. Times Beach is now a ghost town.

There was also some chemical spillage in this area during the 70s, as there was no immediate way of disposing of the waste. So yeah, shitty boss indeed.

I can outroll anyone who uses spray stuff (nasty), and the prep on that is at least five times what a normal roller/brush setup is. Now, for ceilings, or a house that doesn't have anything in it, you might be a bit faster, but most of us do work in lived in houses. However, you can buy way better roller tools and brushes, which will make your job go a whole lot nicer.

Sorry, being pedantic about something I actually know, your point is still valid. :D

Slightly disagree here. The tools are information, and all of it is pretty much 'free', but still requires effort and time to process and digest, which many people seem stubbornly adverse to. There are people who not only don't learn basic scripting, but don't even understand how scripts work in the ecosystem.

And, personally, I put a lot of stock in scripts. I'm a dinosaur toolwise: I'm using the brokeass TA as my main notifier, and only started using OW because Eth made it so damn good. I use TM instead of PandaCrazy, and so on. On the other hand, when I can cut a hit's time from 30+ seconds to under 5s with a script, it really helps me. If I ever actually invested myself, I'd probably make twice what I do now.

The other thing with the painting is, it's like a super pro painter showing you how to use those old brushes efficiently, but some people complaining they don't have access to the good stuff [paint sprayers on air compressor, supermodels in bikinis to grab the next beer while you use it, Mark Twain to satirize you and the fence, etc], so it's pointless and they'll never be successful. As someone without Masters, I think this is horseshit. I still aspire to @Kadauchi's numbers and earnings, and he, like most people with a lot of HITs in all categories and few rejections, doesn't meet Amazon's requirements for 'Masters" either. Not sure if still holds true, but he was raking in between $100-$300 a day.

That's when the rest of us just go into a closed garage to open those paint cans and just huff and huff and huff. ;)

I can't overstate enough how much good technique applies to both Turking and Painting; I got to learn brush and roller work from a guy who can make surfaces look like marble or stone, really magical looking stuff where you go "he didn't paint that."

Wow, nice. I pay 113 to cable one and I thought that was high. I was considering switching to century link but I really don't want to sign a contract. Those are the only two in my town. I should probably give cable one a call...
