This is why having options are good. Try out what you like and just stick to that.. I've woken up from a nap by pins posting, rolled over to make $20, and then went back to my nap. But obviously not everyone likes that or will work with them..I do think they should try at least to see how they like it though.

Hm. I don't think I get it -- So you got alerted through OW, I got alerted through TM, if we both had our 'page refresh' or whatever set at a similar level, wouldn't we both get the alert at the same time? I'm saying that it seems that some people are getting alerted faster than others. I'm trying to figure out why all surveys over $1 get instantly snatched up faster than I can grab them

30% leaning towards saying somehow people are getting alerted faster than others and they're able to grab them faster, but I don't know, part of me thinks there is some kind of auto-accept script(they either are getting alerted faster or accepting faster, any theories on this?)

    Yup, options are good.
Even if your refresh intervals are the same, they aren't firing off at the same time. Yours could fire 1ms before the HITs got to the server, while someone elses could fire right after, so they would get the alert before you.

If you really wanted to get technical I'm sure that having a fiber connection with low ping to mturk could come in play to helping get hits..I'm not sure by how much.. but it reminds me of what happens to with stocks and companies having direct fiber lines.

Personally I have a 80ms ping to mturk but I'm sure that someone has a 40ms ping... Prob doesn't make a huge difference though as long as your internet connection isn't really bad though.

Hm... Trying to understand this. In gaming, the further you are away from the server you have more 'ping', is that similar to how mturk works? Like would someone nearby the 'server' (whatever/wherever that is), get alerted faster?

In a tiny bit yes. But what likely matters more is the timing on your TM or PC.... Basically you getting lucky.

Ping would also play a part, along with your download speed. Also using worker.murk.com is going to be faster since the scripts are using JSON while mturk.com scripts have to use DOM parsing which is going to be slower.

I'm not so sure, I now think I know the reason why I'm missing out on the HITs(srs). I'm in the Midwest, if the server is in Seattle, then I'm basically a 'high pinger'(or am I missing something? LOL)

eh go ping mturk.com and unless it is something stupid like 200ms I doubt it is your internet connection being at fault.

    288ms :help:

I've actually had to give up some online games because I have such terrible lag at times. Comcast sucks. I'd like Google Fiber instead.

That explains my observation of HM being slower than OW and PC. And OW and PC are faster than TM.

I don't know, I don't know anything about computers(srs). Maybe you are right

Last thing, how can I check my ping to mturk.com?

 I'm sure comcast has the finest of shoe strings hooked up to your modem.

    Open cmd and then type

    ping mturk.com

    Then press enter

If on windows, click the windows key + R. type "cmd" and then on the command prompt type "ping mturk.com" (And if you want colorful results, type "color 0a" before you ping.

I have an auto-accept script in my bucket of Turk Things (and yes, other people do too but aren't like going to admit it, it's no one else's business, really). But I wouldn't use it for these. for a HIT where everyone has the pandas it's not necessary (and it won't work any faster than a panda). You turn a panda on one around the time you know the HIT will drop and once you get a ping on one you can use any number of methods to quickly grab more.

The only difference between a general auto-accept script and a panda is that a panda is only going to catch what you know you want to catch. AA is like a basket you set out and see what trash collects.

For TM, you need to get into its nuts and bolts to optimize it. Not all 'accept' buttons on mturk scripts are made equal. They don't even all use the same mechanism. Not to mention internet speed, type of processor, type of mouse

My point is that there are so many variables at play that you can't really blame it on any one thing. Don't try to figure out how everyone else is doing it, figure out the quickest way that will work for you and your set up.

    So I got minimum = 34ms, maximum = 72ms, average = 44ms

So..... am I good? 44ms seems pretty good, was thinking that it would be like 70 based on what I've pinged to west coast servs in some games
