Nearly every game before the x360 generation ran at 60fps.. just fyi..

 

Damn, you're young. Games were also sprites and flat textures or we measured the graphics bits. Also, most games were locked to the monitor, most of which were CRT, and usually 30 fps.

 

Nah those are 60fps I'll pull stats up for you

Yeah I just double checked PAL was basically 50fps and NTSC was 60 (PAL had better colors though at a higher res)

Now it was interlaced frames though obviously so it wasn't as good as progressive 60fps but it was miles better than 30fps that games seem to struggle to get to on consoles these days lol

The important part is that old games on CRTs displayed at the native refresh rate of the display. Anything outside of the native refresh rate causes issues and that is why freesync and g-sync are popular for gamers right now.

Frame timing is also an issue that has been getting progressively worse with console releases as well. >.>
