hmm... tried to do some Jason Coup transcription hits, but I REALLY can't understand chunks of what they're saying. I think it's a dispatcher and maybe if i were more familiar with the codes they use I'd pick it up... but....

(shrugs)

Actually, that is comforting, I figured maybe it's partly cause I'm getting older and my hearing isn't the best. What really stinks though is they have the potential to be a good batch. I mean, they're really short (unlike a lot of a transcription batches I run into on MTurk) and with the exception of usually the beginning I can usually make out most what they're saying.

I accidentally accepted one and listened to a 11 sec one 3x before returning it. I like money but that is ridiculous. This made me think of how I am doing the adult websites for ISS and how they only give you 2 to 5 cents a page. It is sad because 7 1/2 years ago I was getting .43 cents per minute to do stuff like that for working solutions (i think it adds up to 17 dollars a hour). Why are these companies wanting quantity over quality? I just don't get it. (sorry had to rant).*editing to add that I used to get 17 dollars a hour before B*ng shipped their stuff to mexico and now who knows.

 

Random thought: Isn't it weird that the requesters on those batches where you roleplay a person on an information service (you know, the one where you can look up attractions, bars, hotels, etc in Cambridge) want "American English" speakers when they're obviously speaking British English, not to mention all the locations are England?

For example, dunno about you, but I don't known any American that spells "center" as centre.

Not complaining, because they give me a lot of work (and thus money) to do, but still.. just find that requirement interesting.

For anyone who didn't do it, there's another Nate Hodges up - I think this one is required for a continuation of the surveys - I think at least. It asks if we'd like to help with the next phase of the beta testing and mentions a new research panel.
