I'm not actually using RAID right now at all. Mostly because my storage is all mixed sizes and it would cost more than it is worth when I can just spend a few hours re-downloading that HDD's data onto a replacement.

Not to mention backblaze will mail you a hard drive with your data encrypted overnight if you need the data faster than you can download it. It's really hard to beat their whole setup

Hmm, Do they have a single file size limit on upload? What type of speeds can you get downloading? Do they use SFTP?

 

Uh dunno @MasterNyborg might know more but I haven't actually had to download anything yet but I did max out my connection when I did my test download at ~240mbps.

It is hard to beat the bandwidth of postal mail but the ping times are killer.

 

A few hours... well there goes that whole need for instant gratification, nevermind rebuild times can take that long as well...

seems like 5gb for normal files but up to 10Tb through a specific method

 

yeah honestly with backblaze being a thing raid only makes sense for me if you need 100% uptime and sometimes you won't even get that with it lol

 

I personally enjoy some of the weird part names on planes because you can sound batcrap insane while being totally correct. My current favorite is wig wag because I can say, "Whiskey tango foxtrot, Little red bird asking permission to futz with the Wig Wag now!"

It's great, it makes my day. I don't actually need to say this on the radio but it's fun and usually makes someone laugh.

 

@MasterNyborg Does Backblaze give you a utility for doing backups? Like, can I do a clone backup for my Macs and PC

 

Yeah but the cost is per a device. I suggest having a central backup 'server' in your home and backing that up to backblaze so that you only pay one device worth of fees.
