01/07 - Sailing Away Saturday!

You know its sometimes fun to read up on the forum, today was again one of those days. Seems that there is quite a bit of information or disinformation either or I guess that known by everyone. Does anyone actually know anything concrete now that this article has resurfaced as a discussion topic in the forum?

 

@ChrisTurk I have a shiney new fork and a bottle of coke might I suggest using said fork to randomly poke the server and the bottle of coke to put out the possible electrical fire? Or if destruction of the server is not an ideal solution then fork to poke the managed hands and then coke as more of a carrot to fix this on their end? The stick can still be used to motivate as necessary.

If you handed me the fork right now I'd jam it in my brain and leave this problem to whoever inherited the forum in my non-existent will.

I'm kind of sad 'cause it looks like thread live update is going behind the donation paywall. Though I can't thank @kryssyy enough for pointing me in the right direction.

 

If it helps... while the live update was off (when I posted in response to the ow question) I was still experiencing the same connectivity issues.

That's because pages are stilling polling it.. even if I turn it off all the pages previously open that are still asking for it continue to ask for it. So its just an endless loop of errors.

Depending on where you stuck said fork you could just go full/partial lobotomy style and be a shell of your former self then no need for a will.

 

Well what about a temp takedown for say 3x polling length giving enough time to generate timeouts and then bringing the site back up?

I also think that taking the live update function behind the paywall would stop some of the flyby visitors from accessing the forum from then burying the tab for the rest of the day while taxing your resources.

Really, there needs to be a thread or something b/c I'm only learning of some of this stuff recently....hell I think I only found out about the whole issue in general like 2 weeks ago.

 

@ChrisTurk could take the forum down for months, I could leave this page up the whole time, and when he turns the forum back on live update would start polling immediately.

 

True, cause we are talking client-side pulls. Hell we are sitting at ~20 Users, ~16 Guests we were riding much lower in the water a few days ago and things seemed fine. I wonder what else @ChrisTurk is seeing that might be causing this.
