    Yep, quite similar. They're both aliums. Another nice plus to leeks is they aren't nearly as tear-inducing as onions while prepping.

    Honestly I don't have any issues with onions causing tears and I use onions a lot.

    LOL :p It's weird, I chopped an onion a few weeks ago for soup with my daughter helping out and she didn't react at ALL. Scooped 'em up and put them in a bowl and everything. I was rekt for like 20 mins :emoji_joy_cat:

    A lot of it depends on the onion honestly. Soil composition, onion variety, among other things.

    Vidalia onions seem to be one of the easiest varieties as far as the tearing issue goes. Also, I've heard that putting the onion in the freezer ahead of time can reduce some of the crying. But of course that requires planning lol.

    Just avoid the top. That is where the most tear inducing stuff is. The rest is pretty mild.
