I've been around the medical community long enough for various reasons to know that the chances of being involved in a fucked up surgery is probably WAY less than something ridiculous like winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning. Consider how many surgeries take place every single minute compared to the one every so often you hear about was "botched".

I'm not so sure. The surgeon I've met with really seemed untrustworthy, or a bit of an egomaniac. Really reminded me more of a Wall Street type and not the typical doctors I've had before. I get it, the guy is amazing and anyone who can perform surgery is amazing, but still, I got a bad feel about the guy. Later on my Uber driver was telling me that she had a botched surgery on her knee... SAME surgeon(srs). Was she lying? I don't think she had a reason to

Don't know, I can see this guy doing surgeries for money or undertreating, etc. I think I have a complex knee injury, really who is to say that the surgeon you get is going to be one of the 'good ones'? I'm worried about it, would be nice if surgeons had some kind of score you could check

"C-SATS ensures removal of all identifiable information, both the patients’ and the practitioners’, before reviewers see them. By making C-SATS a part of your institution’s quality improvement and patient safety program the information may be afforded peer review protection in a court of law."

Sounds to me like its actual surgeries being performed and some hospitals/surgeons use CSATS to get quality improvement feedback...

Also CSATS makes a HUGE mention of HIPAA and patient privacy. I doubt they would make such a big deal if it was animals and training videos being used.

I've heard about botched surgeries though, and I've read horror stories online. "Foot Drop", someone getting surgery and then something happening where that person now has lost control of their foot, pretty much like having a dead foot attached to your leg. Nerve pain, not nearly as bad because I think I could live on pain pills... Yeah, I don't know. It could be paranoia, but I've heard radio show hosts talk about how medical malpractice is one of the top causes of death now? No idea

I bet a botched surgery is more common than winning the lottery, just saying.

You can, in fact, look up your surgeons and see if they have bad reviews or malpractice suits. Keep in mind it's not that uncommon for a frivolous malpractice suit at some point but if the doctor has a ton it's not a great sign. There are med review websites that rate doctors and each hospital is rated in general and by department so you can get a fairly good idea. No reason you can't find someone you're more comfortable with.

I retract my previous statement about it looking like a seizure. Nice to see more than 10 seconds of the video too. Thanks!

Last thing, I typed in the doctors name and malpractice, seems nothing has really shown up on Google other than a site that makes you pay to see if he's had any malpractice suits

Are you sure this information is readily available? Now that you mentioned it, I want to find out if this guy does have a long history of being sued by his patients

When it comes to reconstructive knee surgery you want the surgeons who are high volume. Yes, they're going to fail. The knee is a ridiculously complicated joint.

All surgeons cut for money.. its what they do..
Call your local department of health, they usually can provide you with this information as they're the ones who keep track of medical licenses in most (I'd say all, but I only know for sure in a few) states. If not they can all but assuredly point you in the correct direction.

I think you're going to end up psyching yourself out though. You're better off learning about your injury/surgery and asking questions than taking one data point into account with little to no other context.
