    :robot: but yeah if someone that actually knows how to script could look at it real quick it should be able to say if it actually uses a page refresh to do it stuff like I think that it does.

    oh and some more notes, Enter key will bring your cursor to the next text area. When you're in the 8th transcription, Enter will submit the HIT. pretty nice!

    Before all the audio plays will take focus so the keystroke isn't put into the box. Then .focus() should give it back.. I'm too lazy to pull them back up but IIRC its 'textarea[name=text#]' and the # is the same as the audio so its pretty straightforward.

    on these uofi hits do they want you to just come close with phonetic spelling or do they want the romanization of the arabic?

    I noticed all the audio clips seem to be from ILR grade 5 tests, do they expect us to perform at ILR5? I hope not, because I could never get past first year arabic :?(

    Nah, hit 'em with your best effort of a phonetic spelling. That's all they're looking for, a layperson's take on how they would spell given foreign words using the good ol' 26-character alphabet.

    huh, now I kind of wish I hadn't skipped the russian hits they had a while back, I can do phonetic spellings of russian but I thought they wanted the correct romanization

    I don't think they could get anywhere near that level of data quality with the qualifications they have set now. :lol: They've been doing this for over 2 years now, so I'm pretty sure they'll be around more! :nod:

    What I've got so far is

          $('audio')[1].play();
          $('textarea[name=text1]').focus();
          break;
    But the focus happens immediately so the number ends up getting typed. If I take out that 3rd line, the .focus, it stops the keyboard input but doesn't focus the textarea after playing, which is worse. I've tried using .delay but it's not helping, so I think I might be stuck. :lol:

    oh is it possible to type 1 then typing the number again backspaces? is that a thing you can do or maybe make shift=backspace for convenience

    My excessively hackey solution that I can think of right now would be an AHK that sends a backspace after each of the 8 keystrokes but ... that's so ghetto lol. ~_~ Alright well you pretty much asked for it,
