Most the time Drivers must provide their own car, and their own gas. The company keeps that deliver charge as "cost expense to offer delivery at all" If you follow the Dave Ramsey plan at all, then you know Pizza Delivery is really good for a second job to be getting out of debt. If you ask How's it going and they say Better than I deserve.. Immediate tip as much as you can LOL. It is code for I am a Ramsey guy busting my ass to pay off a shit ton of debt. I like to tip, it will get me no where but good vibes.

I'll leave it at this. I deliver pizzas. I've delivered pizzas for a very long time. I earn a delivery charge of anywhere from 2.50 to 5.50 depending on how far they live. I'm an independent contractor. I don't earn an hourly wage. I pay both employee and employer taxes. I get delivery charge and tips. That's it. 9 out of 10 people tip 5. Old ladies tip 3. About once a month I won't get a tip at all. Sometimes there are no deliveries on a slow day - we earn nothing. Sometimes it's busy and we earn a shit load. Sometimes we make an absolute shit ton. Sometimes we make nothing at all.
But 5 dollars is the gold standard. Almost everyone tips 5. Take from that as you will, but just realize that most people tip 5.

I mean cooks are atleast paid minimum wage, waitresses make like $2/hour and rely on tips, thats why you tip the waitress and not the cook.

It's like this. If employers aren't paying their delivery guys enough, and they're passing most of the responsibility to you, the customer to provide the living wage? If their drivers weren't getting paid enough, no one would want to be a delivery driver. Then they'd have to sweeten the pot for their drivers, or just not provide delivery service.

It's the same principle as us as Turkers, working on HITs, we've seen the HITs that come paying a pitulence, and then no one works on them. We see them a few days later, the reward of higher compensation, then we see the work being done.

So the issue is that they are paid slave wages. The problem is with the employer, then. I'm already paying for my food, I shouldn't be obligated to give you extra because you chose a shitty job. Tips are for good/outstanding service, they shouldn't be an obligation.

You're hiring someone to deliver your food and not paying for it. Pick it up yourself. Pickup is free.

But the waitress has to run all over the restaurant and deal with bratty kids and people Grinching at them when things aren't perfect or when the food takes too long and they barely make over $2 an hour at some of those places.

Just out of curiosity do you work directly for a chain or like one of those aggregate things like post mates? None of the chains around here use contractors for delivery.

I tip at least 5. When I redeem my free pizza points and get it delivered my free pizza costs me about 8 bucks lol.

The problem is that a lot of waiters just expect tips now without working for it. Tip according to the service you get.
