She didn't throw them away. Matt did, because his mom told him too. They were Birdie's things, and no one asked her what she wanted to do with them. It doesn't matter their use, it doesn't matter if they were thrown away vs donated. It was a matter of her personal property being stolen and destroyed without her permission.
