I lurked for a month or two before saying anything. For me, the biggest issue I had is that I felt like everyone knew each other and I was an intruder.

Even now, I lurk a lot more than I post because 1) I dislike anime, 2) I'm a grumpy old man disguised as a 32 year old, 3) I know these things about myself, and don't want to be THAT guy. Instead, I go back into my house and stare out my window and grumble to myself while people ask questions that could be answered by doing any amount of reading whatsoever-------------see, I'm catching myself going into grumpy old man mode right now......

I'm not a bad person, I swear. I've been snarky in the past because I have low tolerance for people who are rude or obnoxious, but I've taken the thumper approach.

jk. I was wayyyy more active/talkative/friendly/fun on MTG early-middle of last year until it got so toxic after jqkill died, who was kind of the peacekeeper between idiots and the core group. There was also dumb drama where I was targeted for literally no reason and then I got a bad rap for arguing against it, and at that point I was just like "lol forum drama, I'm 31 years old, I'm done with that now." And only stuck with my little group of friends I made off of the forum. Now that we're here, I don't mean to be so quiet, I just have a ton going on IRL and in my own head, and if I'm on my computer I'm usually working hard or hardly working, nyuck nyuck.

I'm sorry to come off as intimidating. Anything rude I've ever said has only been directed at people who are rude. And if I'm intimidating by not sharing my work it's only because I was put off by something previously. I swear I'm just a harmless, awkward, boring little girl.

When I was teaching nothing would throw me off track more like coming eye-to-eye w/ one of my students (usually 3rd grade or younger) while scanning the room. I'm a pretty decent public speaker (when i know what i'm talking about but i still get nervous) but it would always throw me off and I'd havta restart. Making full-blown eye contact w/ anyone has always made me super uncomfortable

Well since there doesn't seem to be much work being done around and were all caught up in casual conversation I won't feel bad about this.

@Hummingbirdee I found a show on Netflix you and the mister would probably enjoy. Its called Plane Resurrection. Its exactly as it sounds. People rebuilding and restoring planes.

Yeah it is definitely challenging for sure. I still get thrown off now and again. I think I am not as nervous now because of my trick and because I have been doing it so long (13+ years at this point) that I am rarely even thinking about what I am saying. I will be giving a definition and thinking about an episode of "Black Mirror" or something...

I wanted to add that I find the overall tone of this forum to be much more welcoming even though many of the same individuals are still involved. To be honest I NEVER would have mentioned my alcohol issues or my anxiety on MTG but felt fine mentioning both here. I am OK with it here mainly because other people were discussing those things and I wanted to show support and understanding as everyone else was being very supportive.

I've always been a lurker and had never even registered for a forum, much less make a post, before MTG and now here. The last year has been stressful for me dealing with my husband and my Dad's health issues. About the only social interaction I seem to have now is with doctors and family members about medical stuff. I don't post a lot and wish I had more to contribute, but I really enjoy reading through all the posts here. Gives me some distractions to my day, some laughs, and you guys make me feel young again. Everyone has a story and I think it's great that people who don't know each other can be kind and supportive. We need more kindness and compassion in this world. Thanks all!

let me translationfy this for you.

I creeped for a month or two before expressing how I really felt. For me, the biggest issue I had is that I felt like all these jerks knew each other and I was an intruder.

Even now, I creep a lot more than I post because 1) I dislike those super sexy little anime girls, 2) I'm a old fart disguised as a younger fart, 3) I know these things about myself, and don't want to be THAT guy that hates everything and creeps while being disguised as a old/young fart. Instead, I go back into my basement and creep out my window and talk to myself while jerks ask questions that could be answered by doing any amount of creeping whatsoever-------------see, I'm catching myself going into old fart old man mode right now......

DISCLAIMER: DO NOT TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY, THIS IS JUST JOKING AND TRYING TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE PART OF THE GROUP HERE...

    • Please note that the payment that we have offered for your help is not intended to be a fair hourly wage. We have no research grant funds or other funds to pay people what they deserve for their time. We are paying as much as we can.

      • We certainly do not mean to give offense. Please do not participate if you feel strongly that the pay [0.25 for a 20-30 minute survey] is inadequate.
