I mean, A) We had to find a place from 2200 miles away in less than a month and rentals go within the same day a lot here B) We were supposed to move into an entirely different place but they double booked it so we had to find a second place with a week to go before leaving C) We knew it was a cheap POS, but we didn't want to pay 1650-1800/month for a house an hour away from his job because we have saved a ton for a house and don't want to stop saving because of ludicrous rental prices. The 793 sq feet craphole costs more than our 3 bedroom house in GA did a month, we knew what we were getting into. There are also some odd rental laws in Cali /our county and if we want to break the lease early, we can be forced to still pay the rent for the entire length of it, there is no clause to just give notice and pay a fee or 2 months rent or lose your deposit or whatever, like I've had at every other place I've lived- we found very few places willing to do less than a year lease. It will be a lot easier to absorb the cost of a cheaper place if we have to/want to, than it would have been in an 1800/month house.

I'm not thrilled about the code related stuff cause that should be a duh, but we're handy, we'll fix it and if they want to fine us for putting vents in a door, I'll gladly tear someone a new one because they should already be there anyway. There is only 1 heater in the entire place anyway and no AC lol, so the bedroom is basically not gonna get hot air from it to begin with. Between both of us, we're slowly making it homey and livable. And even though we aren't supposed to have multiple cats, our lax AF landlord will never notice cause he never comes here ever and basically said if we don't cause any trouble he isn't planning to check how many pets we actually have. So, that was another reason we went with the slightly shitty place. 90% of the rentals we looked at had strict rules about cats and dogs over 50 pounds.

But hey, I can get delivery pizza again! That was not an option in rural Georgia!
