They have other sites too that are sometimes specifically for certain areas. Vegas had a bunch of deal tracking sites just for the area. You can usually type [insert location] hotel deals and then find some good stuff/set a google alert/etc.

You can also do the thing where you book a certain star hotel (wanna say it's travelocity?) without knowing which hotel it is in the area. I've done that with mostly great success a bunch of times. I usually go for like 4 star or whatnot at that point, but I've done some well rated 3 star hotels without knowing which one it was in town and gotten some reallllly cheap deals. I stayed in a semi janky hotel that was on the beach in Charleston for real cheap. I mean, it wasn't sketchy janky, everything was just uuber old and there was like...no staff around, but it was in a nice area and I literally walked out onto the beach from the hotel so I was pretty pleased with it.
