I mean, I agree with what you said about power dynamics, but I also feel like both parties willingly sign up. You have to make a conscious choice to freely install and use someone's script. Sure, they may have released it for some glory or recognition, but are you better off with the resource than without it? Even with the bugs or it not being set up in the way you expect it? Even if you have no other resource alternative, you still have the alternative to go without, it's just that no one wants to.

You are right that people are probably voicing their concerns in a way to "do something" in that dynamic, but there is definitely a threshold where you are probably working against yourself. Those who release their scripts are humans too. Berating them is a good way to get them to tell you to fuck off, even if it's only to themselves. It is definitely a process, and usually only a satisfying one once the program works as intended. If you don't have the knowledge or the willingness to troubleshoot or make changes, you're asking for someone to do it for free; which they or others might be willing to do. But this isn't a product they've sold to you where you can feel cheated if they don't respond the way you want. You are free to stop using it and you've only lost the energy you put into it, which probably balanced out totally in your favor, otherwise you wouldn't even bother bringing it up.

TLDR, I just feel like there's a balance to bringing up issues and suggestions. No one is making you use the programs, so you're free go without them. But no one wants that, so at least be respectful and realize these people are humans too and coding is a PITA.
