Well, you've gotta know whether all of the parts are working, and whether or not you need to rip it open and repad/paste/lap/delid. Anyway, the first round of undervolt is done and I know I'm safe to at least -100mV, hopefully I can hit 150 but 7700s are kind of notorious for being slouches when it comes to undervolt.

Still, even 100mV is better than nothing, and if everything checks out I'll be able to run a full 8 hour stress test tomorrow.

I'd suggest that you operate it normally, then at the load you expect to present.
Modern sensing/software gives you the temps of the various components.
The likelihood of heat sink or thermal paste material sufficiently cooling off a chip, then suddenly not doing the job above a certain level, is very low.
The main problem with heat is EXTREME heat generation at the PN junction level.
You should have bought a computer which handles this at your expected max load, and if you didn't that's your buying fault at the high-end.
But purposefully '''''stress testing'''' your computer presents undue heat to those junctions which means irreversible damage.


There is literally no reason to '''''''''stress test'''''''' your computer other than to run your most demanding game/app at maximum then dial it down.

'''''''''''Stress Tests'''''''''' make sense for a Steel steam engineering plant on a warship.

They make Zero sense on a digital computer.

But maybe she's had a good day, her boss hasn't made some horrible advance on her, or just forced her to work 14 hours without a restroom break. Everything's great and you don't need to go to town cleaning and repasting, and if you're doing that you might as well lap and tape and liquid metal, because it takes almost the same amount of time(granted, lapping a chip soldered onto a board is about as much fun as it sounds)

But there's really only two ways to know; either take it apart, and you'll need to repaste after peeking, or run the chip through its paces. In either case, you still need to at least run prime95 for a few hours to make sure your undervolt isn't going to be flipping bits or just outright crashing, so you might as well start with the less invasive step and only bust out the torx bits if you run into trouble.
