Those kinds of HITs are the worst for getting accurate review data.

My guess is you've got an EBS volume that didn't terminate when an instance did or if your instances are stopped you still get charged for the storage fee. Double check you don't have a volume just sitting in Oregon doing nothing.

Because EBS and S3 are different services. S3 does not attach directly to instances as a file system. EBS volumes are used for that.

Depends on your use case and how you set it up. Utilizing DynamoDB, S3, and Lambda you can cut out a lot of the bloat and overhead of managing a site and have it build and serve dynamically. But I wouldn't call it slow by any means. Glacier is slow.

Edit: I left out CloudFront. That's the key service when using S3 to serve content quickly and dynamically.

Created Nov. 30 - probably automatically created when I tried out the Cloud9 dealio during that Amazon conference.

Damn, they sure are tricky. Get everyone excited to try out Cloud9 w/ Amazon, and then trickle out pennies from idle accounts. :tinfoil:

The up and download speeds are very slow. Glacier is just slow on the access cause it is not meant to be regularly used. That is where you put items in "Cold Storage"

If you want to cherry pick the batch and only do the hits with 1 sentence you can get it to around $8/hr.

Also assuming you have easy access to adderall

do we have a "no hits available" reloader? or is it not possible with how they take away our GIDs when they aren't available?

A lot of times I'll attempt to grab a pin and get "no hits" even though I can see it on the list still...

30 minutes to download a 5GB file on a 400Mb/s connection - you do the math. (I'm too lazy) - I just notice that it is slower than say if I was downloading my MSDN monthly files from MS - They are blazing

Again, it depends on your use case. If you're using it like google drive and uploading/downloading from your home pc, yes it's "slow". But that's not really what S3 is truly designed to do. It's not really S3 that's slow, it's the transmission of the data over the internet - it's your bandwidth, your ISPs bandwidth and the latency from getting from point A to B.

CloudFront (and using transfer acceleration) drastically improves performance because it cuts out so many hops between your home network and AWS' ultra fast internal network using edge locations that are geographically closer to your physical location.

When used as intended for running websites and serving dynamic content it is extremely fast due to AWS' network configuration and low latencies.

In short, it's more of a network thing than anything else. The only reason services like Dropbox are "faster" is because they utilize the edge locations and similar technologies. Hell, Dropbox built it's empire based upon this technology and leveraging S3 with CloudFront.

    Again - it's because they're using a CDN.
