I don't think this is necessarily true, although I do agree that you have to actually take action to make changes. Talking to people can be incredibly important though and be a catalyst for action. I'm sure during the labor movement of the 20th century workers sat around and talked about their working conditions which then lead to organizing, strikes, and in the case of the Battle of Blair Mountain/the Coal Wars - open conflict.

Right. So it was the organizing, strikes, etc. that actually made an impact. Communication was just a minor tool used to make sure everyone was on the same page, and to organize the action that would be taken.

That's why I carefully used the phrase "people with no influence".

Whining to people who have either no capacity or no inclination to help just keeps you stuck in the limbo of "annoyed enough to whine, but not annoyed enough to put the effort forth to do something about it".

It feels good to get some of that steam off of your chest, but steam is also what keeps people pushing against discomfort.
