I don't know if it's because I'm relatively new here, but I'm having real trouble reading the tone of posts like this. It happens occasionally and I'm quite confused.

Not sure if I'm missing some sort of inside joke or..??

Right, it's an inside joke. You can break into my house and use it as a social tool and everyone will claim they're confused. Let me work real hard now to get another thing someone can use to lean on me as a motivational technique. Because there's nothing I like more than busting my ass so someone can have all the rules of society suddenly stop working as a motivational technique.

Libraries aren't inherently intimidating - they're just pre-written code.

But Javascript lets you do a lot of strange things that many other popular languages don't let you do, like passing a function as an argument to another function. Or changing some core functionality of built-in datatypes.

Some libraries make full use of Javascript's flexibility, and then you just have to learn a different pattern. A different way of looking at your code or thinking about and approaching a problem.

It's kinda like how games have certain "rules", but then you've got the "metagame" of effective strategies, viable characters, etc. Learning Javascript teaches you the rules of the game, but it doesn't teach you much about the metagame.

 

Yeah my buddy was telllng me how he basically wrote his own for a bunch of shortcuts so he doesn't have to do things over and over, so it's definitely on my to do list to learn more about
