    I was told not to try putting them directly on the iris. That triggers the blink reflex. They taught me to look at a mirror, tilt my head down and hold the bottom lid. Put the contact on the white of the eye, then let go of the eyelid and straiten your head up. The contact should slide over the iris. Then blink a few times to settle it in place.

    Are you sure you can't use toric soft lenses? I have an astigmatism and when I use contacts that's what I have for that eye now. And it is sooooo comfy. So much more comfortable than the regular lens in my "normal" eye.

    Also, I've been looking into Ortho-K. You wear a hard gas permeable lens at night while you're sleeping and it reshapes your cornea for a day or so, so you don't need glasses or contacts through the day. Now that I'm moving into reading glass territory, it sounds so much nicer than bifocals or multiple pairs of glasses. My friend has it and loves it. She's had them for years now.

    I have vision insurance and my glasses + the contacts exam will still run me a couple hundred. I mean, the contact exam/trial contacts is the bulk of it. But even with the frames and lenses mostly covered, I have a 35 buck deductible and then 35 to get my lenses upgraded to the nicer pair. It would easily run me 500+ otherwise cause my vision pays 140 of my frame cost and then most of everything else.
