03/13 - Tasket Tuesday!

Pretty much! The last one she did, about six months ago, I couldn't take the stress; I watched the first half and had to walk away for the last five minutes. This one I sat through. I tell you, it's stressful! Probably not that relaxing for my daughter, either, come to think of it...

They draw it out. 10 to 15 minutes on the ice with three judges scrutinizing literally every move she makes. Then two other skaters who are doing the same level of test have their turns. Then the test session director collects all the reports from each judge, takes them into the office, and does some official nonsense.

Then she gives the three sheets of paper, one from each judge, to my daughter's coach, and the two of them go over each one. She needs to get a passing score from at least two judges.My wife and I have no idea how it's going to turn out, and we leave it up to the coach and our daughter to go through this. All we can see from a distance is that they're reviewing the scores, and they both look quite solemn. My daughter told us how it went afterwards.

Her coach had told her when she came off the ice it was a good skate, but they'd have to wait and see if it was good enough. This is a high level test, they're not meant to be easy to pass, and this was her first attempt at this level.

First judge - pass. Not getting hopes up..
Second judge - retry (= not a pass). Uh-oh.

Tension.

Third judge - pass!!!!!!!

My daughter starts jumping up and down in her skates. My wife and I are watching from a safe distance and that's the signal that yes, she passed.

Not that this means she's done with her lessons. Now her next goal is to finish off all her ice dance tests and all her freestyle tests. Those are the ones where she's doing axel jumps and double salchow jumps and she's skating so freaking FAST to get the height to do these jumps which makes it even more painful when she falls.

TL;DR - my heart can't take much more of this and I need to keep working at the day job/turking to pay for it. And yes, I'm a very proud daddy.

 

I have a problem with the way its being advertised. It encourages this type of thinking and actions as being okay, and hunting animals from a helicopter with a massive advantage and firepower for sport pisses me off in every direction that can be pissed off, so I will bow out of the conversation before I pop a blood vessel.

 

Part of the reason there is a feral pig problem is because wild boars were imported from russia so people could hunt them in enclosed areas... for the 'sport' of it... turns out they're very good at staying alive and now there is a problem.

I gotta say, the shuffle feature for Youtube playlist videos is shit. Wish I could rent a helicopter and hunt down the dude who failed at making that useful.

I have nothing against hunting... but if I had to kill my own meat I'd probably be a vegetarian. I say probably because man I really do like bacon. I dunno.

...Now if someone brings me meat they've hunted, I will gladly accept it and eat it, and have in the past.

You could make a decent argument for eating meat that you've hunted for yourself being far better (both in terms of morality and conservation) than meat you buy in grocery stores, actually.

Oh for sure, I'm too much of a bleeding heart to kill anything, but I like meat enough to still eat it, and just try to do what I can with my purchasing power.

I've thought about it before, I've never had to kill anything. My grandma told me a story of how once she went to a farm and someone handed her a chicken and showed her how to wring the neck... and then she cried as she plucked it, cooked it, and served it to everyone.

Quick and simple (kind of). Bonus could be higher (up to 1$)
Cons:
Bonus is dependent on performance/memorization. I should probably have focused a little more, but good hourly pay regardless.
