04/20 - Fusion Friday!

I got to see a "teenage" size black bear come out of the woods on a drive while I was in Louisiana. He just popped out of the woods and hung out on the side of the road for a couple of minutes. It was great to see because they used to be considered endangered in the area, and they've come back with a vengeance. So cute!

 

I'm way more freaked of the giant ass mountain lions when I'm hiking alone than a bitty California black bear, cause they avoid people. Also the rattlesnakes. FUCK THOSE DANGER NOODLES!

I thought of taking a picture when I saw one recently, but my brain noped me out of the scenario so quick, I was like 100 feet away by the time I registered.

Nah, it works for both.

 

I actually know that smell. It will always be imprinted in my brain. I was hiking along and all of sudden that wild cat pee smell hit me. Turned right around and ran for a good 2 minutes. I don't mess with big kitties.

 

I was so lost at the time (in the sense of being off my path, not like...lost lost), I was just like, "Wow that's a huge person!...Oh wait....oh hell...BEAR?!" I generally make a point to be noisy AF when I'm in densely wooded areas like that alone, cause they tend to avoid the hell out you if they can help it. I'm 100% sure the bear was more startled than I was. I've hiked that trail a ton, and never ran into one..but it's usually way more active in general or I'm on the main trail, so I think the fact I was in the middle of vaguely lostville and trying to find an unmarked footpath without anyone around probably led to the bear not noticing me for awhile.

Bears are super cool, I just prefer to remain out of face ripping distance cause I do not want to be the ash hole who annoys a normally chill bear into whipping my ass. I also like my face a tiny bit.

On the upside, my hiking socks lived up to their promise of being super tough and not ripping or snagging cause I rocked shorts and knee high hiking socks and I rocked through some crazy shit without a scratch or any discomfort (no blisters either, woot!). 10/10, am loving these.

 

Watching Pauly Walnuts win faceoff after faceoff when that's one of our biggest deficiencies right now just hurts.
