05/26 - Swell Saturday!

When I was in my early 20s, one time, after a gig, around 1am, when I was absolutely blitzed from having drunk through the entirety of the set, I drove home, 6 miles. Only a small stretch of paved highway, and then mostly dirt roads. It was monumentally stupid, and I knew I was making a very poor decision. Thankfully, I escaped consequences. I spent a good part of my 30s as a first responder, helping to scrape people off the road who made similar poor decisions and didn't escape their consequences.

Sometimes, it seems like people might be complex, rather than simply always moronic or always good. Then again, I'm sure there's some gospel of Mark somewhere about not judging others unless you're perfect, yourself.

Now I only code drunk, so at least I learned from my mistakes. [For the humor impaired, no, I'm not making light of a serious subject. But perhaps serious subjects are too serious for Saturday threads?]

My mom stopped eating beef after that Mad Cow incident like 8 years ago. It was one little isolated thing where maybe 10 people got sick and hasn't happened since. I don't understand letting the news scare me.

The news likes to sensationalize things. You get more ratings from reporting bad news than good. That's why people care more about some celebrity calling in a fake bomb threat than the completely normal guy who isn't special in any particular way who helps old ladies cross the street and helps get dumb cats down from trees.

 

Clearly there's only one proper way of looking at the situation, and anyone who doesn't look at things with a strict moral code and black/white ideology is wrong.

 

And people cannot learn or change. Ever.

Well some people aren't able to learn from their mistakes and they are actually retarded but most people given the time will.

I mean @ChrisTurk did a lot of stupid shit in college but he isn't sitting around using a 18Q crockpot to cook all of his meals so I think that he has grown.

The way I see if, everyone makes mistakes. I have learned way more from mistakes and losses than I ever have from success and wins. Admittedly, I am as anti-drunk driving as it gets, so it's hard for me to apply logic to it.

I was never all that wild or anything, but if you put my top 10 list up, you'd think I need to write "don't forget to breathe" on my hand.

 

Only one meal? Who makes only one meal in a crockpot? The whole point of it is to make a shitload of food that lasts 3 days while you're in class, so you don't have to eat microwaved noodles again.

 

Everyone makes mistakes no doubt about that, but if you're constantly making mistakes like calling bomb threats or driving drunk then you're garbage, lol simple as that.
