You do not have to write. It's only recommended if you see something specific that catches your eye and you want to comment on.

We had the "flower bag babies". Had to carry a bag of flower that had a hollowed out egg in a bag for its brain.
had to keep the shell from cracking

Yeah, I teach at a college level, and it's insane what these 18/19-year-olds can't do/don't understand. High school should definitely have some kind 'life-prep' class or something.

We did the useful stuff in my home ec class! Cooking, balancing a checkbook, etc. Then we learned how to fix household stuff in shop the next year.

Health class, strangely enough. I think they wanted us to see how expensive adulting was. Except we didn't have a budget, which sort of defeated that purpose.

My 7th grade Social Studies teacher taught us how to fill out checks and a 1040EZ. In secret. Like the administration wasn't allowed to find out.

We just had the hollowed out egg in a little construction paper basket we had to carry around for a week.

I'm quickly realizing how very strange schooling is.

My dad could fix ANYTHING. Like...he'd get up under the house and fix the plumbing and shit. And one day, when I was like 24 I asked him "how did you learn to do all of this adult stuff," and he went to his office, pulled out a book that literally said PLUMBING and haded it to me.

Gaffe tape is what kept me from killing my ex...
6'4" size 14 shoes..... And they were mostly wood bottoms... on hardwood floors. I gaffe taped those heels after three dates.

I was blown away when I left NH and learned other states didn't have a tech wing on the HS with auto shop, building trades, food service etc etc.

You know like all the stuff that is the actual job they will do after they are done playing in college

Right, except (in NY anyway), home ec/shop is not part of the "common core".

No child left behind. Until they wind up living with mom and dad and/or on welfare.

We had a tech wing in 7th grade school.
8th/9th grade we only had home ec, no other courses.
10th-12th grade we had no "adult" skills classes.

Stage Crew is the only class at my high school that the chance of death (although nobody has to my knowledge) exists... if you fall off the wobbly cat walk up top you will fall through the thin ceiling and die.

The teacher for my marriage class wrote his own textbook for it.

And quoted himself in it with all these sayings he made up.
