@ChrisTurk I called the Anderson records office in tears the other day because I was stressed about my dmv bs and they got my paperwork sent out so fast that it blew my mind. 5-7 business days before it even gets sent out and I'm getting my stuff delivered today...2 business days after I made my request.

Man, I will never talk shit about Anderson for the rest of my life, those mofos are super helpful...or at least the people I happened to come in contact with. They actually offered to fax my stuff directly to the dmv and the dmv told them, "Naw son. How do we know it's even real then?" They were so frustrated for me, they just hurled that crap in the air mail for me the same day I called and told me not to worry.

 

They called you son? I had a CSR call me hon yesterday - she sounded like a QT3.14 too

 

I wish that I still had a link to Suri's research paper for that hit.

I actually had a sweet old lady who called me sugar many times over. She was also confused why I needed paperwork the Cali dmv specifically said I didn't need (and looked it up herself and was confused) and felt super bad for me and was also confused why the current copies I had didn't satisfy a requirement I didn't even know they would spring on me. After they refused to accept an official fax, she was like, "Ok sugar, I'm gonna get this in the mail for you by the end of the day. You'll be fine!"

Thank you sweet old lady. You da real mvp.

Ethics of running human experiments is hard .. Not directly meeting and talking with the people on MTurk makes it even harder...

Amazon presents MTurk as a kind of impersonal black-box for micro-task labor, and requester therefore naturally conceive of the platform as such. Consequently, the “crowd” is (sometimes) thought of as a black box for gathering data from an idealized “psychology simulator” ... I hope things get better .. I know that many people are working hard to ensure that we make progress.

 

FYI Circle takes a long time to xfer to your bank account. They state 1-4 days, and it's been 6 business days.

Then when you contact them, they tell you that it's all complete on their end. Except you're a Turker, so you know exactly how long Amazon, PP, Venmo, Crypto sites, and other banks take to xfer to your bank account. And you know exactly how the Pending transactions reflect that.

So avoid Circle. That is my public-service Blog post for the day.
