The slow-carb/4 hour body way of eating is basically protein, veggies, and beans 6 days a week. As much as you want. No counting calories at all. Beans are a slow digesting carb, they keep you full, they're an excellent source of protein and fiber. You never really feel deprived after the initial sugar addiction is broken.
On the 7th day you eat whatever you want. Seriously as much of whatever you want. I've eaten a dozen donuts, whole pizzas, etc. It confuses the hell out of your metabolism and it's much easier to stick to the diet 6 days a week when you know your going to have a food orgy at the end of the week. It's the best diet ever.

My girlfriend uses an app called MyFitnessPal or something to keep track of what she eats - it automatically counts the calories for her. So like say you eat a bowl of cheerios for breakfast - you can enter it in and it'll automatically count the calories. Has a bunch of foods in the database.

It also helps to eat foods that the body can use better. IE: better to eat hummus than a donut.

Love that app, but I hate adding in my exercise cuz then it messes with your calorie count for the day, adding back in what you just worked off. Which I'd prefer not to happen.

Its super hard to out exercise a bad diet. You can run for 5 miles, or not eat 4 cookies.
It helps to keep you full, but doesn't really change the outcome.

But since all humans are hard at resisting temptation, having a full feeling is better to help you manage your calories. Besides, eating a starchy food vs a fatty food metabolizes way differently inside the body. The starchy food can raise your blood sugar making you hungry faster than the fatty food.

You could work on changing the portion sizes. Smaller portion of meat with a larger portion of vegetables will go a long way even if he won't give up having his meat and potatoes.

Start with weight watchers. The online stuff. We did that for three months and learned a lot about portioning, spreading out meal times, and getting much more creative in cooking.

Its even easier to lift so you put on more muscle which will increase your BMR so you can eat the cookie and not always have to run.
I'm not arguing that fact. I'm saying that it doesn't matter in the end for those who have the ability to resist the temptation. For me I don't bother with any junk when I cut but when I'm on a bulk I can eat junk (in modertation)
