I'm serious though that router is most likely hot garbage for $200 that amazon is trying to sell it at. A bloody rip off if you ask me.

I know, I saw it when I replied to someone this morning. I was like, "wait...is that...a bow badge!?" So yay, I have a badge now! lol

 

This I have no clue on, its going to be really volatile depending on the company and who she happens to get on the phone I imagine. I believe they're discouraged from helping setup home router/modem combos though because its a huge profit loss for the cable company. IIRC some have even been caught purposefully breaking them w/ forced firmware upgrades? That could just be /r/tech conspiracy though from a random comments section being regurgitated out of my brain.

I kinda doubt they're gonna be helpful, but I'm sure there is a subreddit that would be. Maybe /r/techsupport ? Dunno, just put Comcast in the title & "trying to get away from monthly modem fees" and you'll have the angry folks out en force to help lol.

I said that you could point it out, that doesn't mean that I'm going to stop saying that it is shit.

Most ISPs have you call to activate the modem but you can just plug in the router and do basic setup that would be ezpz for both of us but perhaps not everyone on this forum. I use my own modem on comcast without an issues for example.

I doubt that they would be super helpful for getting it setup though outside of activating the modem.

 

I didn't catch the original convo. I have Comcast with my own modem + router. They are not a combo. All I did was plug the modem in, call Comcast and gave them some numbers off the modem for activation. EZPZ.
