As someone new to MTurk, is it risky taking on a batch hit like these robots interaction videos? They seem to be based on opinion, but the requester has no history and I've heard people complain about rejections before. Just starting out so not wanting to risk it over a couple bucks, so figured I'd ask.

 

I mean its pretty decent payback

 

I wouldn't do scared money hits until you've built up a big enough cushion to absorb rejects

Essentially you never want to risk more than 1% of your total HITs on any one requester unless you are absolutely, positively sure they wont reject.

When you're new (<3k-5k hits) - don't bother risking that even if you are sure they wont reject, because you can never really be sure and frankly the $ isn't worth the risk that new even on dumb stuff like CIs IMO.

Learn, learn, learn, learn. Then work. Its honestly safer and you'll make more in the long run learning before working in most scenarios. If a survey has an IRB form, its safe for you to do so do it. Learn how to evaluate & ham batches while you feed around on surveys for padding while you're newish.

If you feel like you don't know what to learn, just come chit-chat on the daily thread and ask questions or just say something, if you're a newbie and you say something kinda dumb (in a noobish way not intelligence) its the internet so people will send you off to the correct post to learn about it or explain / answer if it can be answered haha.

Thanks for the tips, I'll stop doing it now.. I did i think 8, I just started last week and so far I've been doing batch 3c hits mostly to fluff my numbers in between Noah and survey hits, I think I'm around 450 so far. Here's hoping it goes well, I'm mostly just lurking on here and watching the posts. What are CIs though?

 

Customer Interests, its a requester that when they post big batches are hella recommended for newbies as they are easy and the pay is not awful and they are considered "safe"

They're probably the most often recommended "safe" #s HITs. If you see them you can do them to safely pad #s in most cases.

Also my bad, I didn't mean to chase you off work. That was just a general guideline to follow. IME if you do tasks well on mTurk the vast, vast majority of work approves. But it only takes one fuckup for your account to be donezo when you have so few HITs, and it can be very difficult to judge doing a task correctly or not on here for newbies (it is not always straightforward, and plenty of "subjective" HITs reject as they aren't as subjective as some people think) so that's all just kinda general advice. I didn't look at w/e HIT you were doing at all, so I have no clue if its safe/unsafe and you shouldn't take my advice as a signal not to work on them, sorry my bad I don't want to chase you off $ or anything lol was just throwing out the kinda rule of thumb guidelines
