How's Kodi for music, since we're already talking about it? I'm still tinkering with my HTPC, and I'm still not sure if I want to go with the best programs available for each function, or just have everything under one umbrella (even if it results in a slight quality loss).

 

Depends on how you want your music. If you already have the digital copies it's great. If you want streamed radio stations or videos it's ok, if you want on demand like spotify it's not great.

 

I'm fairly certain that kodi has spotify support... I could be wrong though.

MP3 Streams Add On is pretty cool. Closest thing to Spotify.
If you like different electronic music House-Mixes is the shit.
You Music for Videos. When it's working it's great.
But for music mostly I stream my stuff through Plex.

Last I tried to mess with it you could kinda sorta finagle it to launch spotify but I never saw anything that allowed it to run inside Kodi. But that's probably been a year ago so it wouldn't surprise me if someone finally figured it out.

considering how cheap it is.. it would be easier to just get a chromecast (or chromecast audio if it works with your setup) and just cast to it from your phone.

 

OK, that's good to hear. Yeah, I've been ripping all of my stuff to FLAC and wasn't sure if there were any disadvantages to using Kodi versus, say, Foobar. For streaming, I don't mind opening up a browser or another app.

 

I would recommend using Plex. You can access things from your plex server natively in Kodi and you can easily add video to that later if you want.

 

My Kodi runs on a standard PC so I just exit Kodi and launch spotify.
