I have learned Java, C++ years ago and now I cannot write a simple class.

but because of my studies, I consider myself an expert at MATLAB. I learnt it by reading codes first and writing shit ton of codes.

The internet is a stalker. I told my sister she could use Ublock to block ads when she's watching Youtube and then the next day she saw it mentioned on some tech youtube channel that Patrick Norton hosts. She was all thanks Patrick, and I'm like why are you thanking him? I'm the one who told you about it.:ao:

    Definitely.

If other schools were like mine, you'd learn a ton of theory, have a great base for general concepts, but sometimes only a couple of lectures or labs on a specific language. You could drop me in the middle of any language, and I wouldn't be lost, but the people that started with JUST js/jq and worked from the ground up are going to destroy me.

and to add to what leafs said, especially when it comes to turking, it's true that necessity is the mother of invention. i've had scripts do one thing, then i want it to do something else so i figure out how to change it. then i find something similar but just different enough that i need to change it, so i figure it out. then you get more ideas for "how would i--", "i wonder if i can--" and google for hours to figure out something out.

i try not to ask for advice or help until i've exhausted myself and hit a dead end, but that's only because i'm a stubborn brat lol. anytime i have asked anyone here, i get 5 different answers, all which work, and why each one works and how. i know you saw firsthand the other day how there are so many resources and so many people willing to help someone learn. and it's so much more rewarding to be taught to fish rather than be given one fish, so to speak.

So I had a youtube level-eque melt down on some lady in the supermarket today.

I was at Wal-Mart with my wife and my daughter we were checking out in self check out when all of a sudden this lady who is walking by tells her down syndrome child to go see the baby without asking our permission. So my wife says "no, please don't touch my baby." Not because of prejudice, we both worked with down syndrome individuals professionally), but because we don't like anyone touching her. So the down syndrome kid (I say kid, but they're like 30) walks away without a problem because my wife was really nice. Then her mom says in this nasty tone "I didn't tell her to touch your baby, I told her to look at her" and my wife says "I don't care, you're a stranger you should talk to me first and you encourage her to come near people's children" and she says "no, my daughter isn't doing anything wrong" and my wife disagreed saying that she was touching our child without permission.

So by this point I had already been having a bad day (I have a chronic condition and I am having a flair) and I said loudly several times to this lady she needed to go away. I guess I was really loud because I created a huge scene and everyone in wal-mart was looking at me. So she just stands there and says no, she's not going away and stood there with her arms crossed. I just kept telling her she needed to leave, but she refused. Like dude why are you arguing about touching our baby, piss off. I was so angry I heard someone in the background saying they were going to have to call the cops, and a customer service guy got in the middle of us and was super chill and said "Sir, please let me handle this".

I left through the back way at this point per the direction of some other employee. Apparently according to my wife, there were other dads in the store who were nodding and saying don't like it when other people touch their baby either.

I guess the moral of this story is, stop fucking touching people's babies in public without their permission.

Further evidenced by my experience. I have a bachelor's in Computer Science, I graduated in 2012. I basically just did enough programming to skate by in my classes, but never really "explored". I couldn't code for shit until not long ago when I actually sat down with a goal and just reasoned and learned my way through it until I had a working product.

Granted, I had a really strong understanding of programming theory, which helps a ton, and is one of the hardest hurdles when you're learning for the first time.

But generally speaking after getting decent at one language, you pick up the rest a LOT easier. Some languages have very different flows and formatting, but conceptually, modern languages are very similar.

Javascript is a beast unto it's own ಠ_ಠ but a lot of the same principles hold true.

Naw. Assessing the damage on his bike.

He made it less than 4 months with a brand new motorcycle before he totalled it. What a shitty record to set lol.

I have three adult kids. I've NEVER had anybody try to touch my children when they were infants. Is this something new?

Maybe you need to work on your RBF? My kids have informed me I have an outstanding one. (And, as a grandma, I do admire infants, but would never dream of touching. WTF?!)

yeah, i don't know man. some people don't have respect for personal space. at one point in time i used to have dreads, and when i'd be out and about people would feel like they could just come up to me and start touching my hair. i wouldn't even know someone was behind me and they'd be grabbing at it.

What is an RBF? Also idk why it keeps happening, but it happens to us constantly and people keep getting angry at us when we tell them to start. We think it might be a cultural thing, because when we were growing up we never saw anyone do anything like that either. We're not from here (Troy, MO) though so we think it must be some weird that happens here.
