I have purchased a lot of property this way and then flip it. You have to go to the tax office and ask for the FLC list (Foreclosed land commission) for properties that are past the auction or "Buy it now" which have more than 2 years of unpaid taxes. The ones that are buy it now either have really high taxes or are crap properties. But you can also go to the courthouse in November and register for the auction itself where they will give you the list of properties that are going up for sale. They also list all of them in the newspaper.

I bought a house for my mother in law for $700. It is a great way to make money, but I have also had people flip out. You have to evict them or start charging them rent or something. And evictions take about 6 weeks. But only once has the situation seemed dangerous.

 

Whoa. I wish it were like that where I live. I would own so many more rental properties if I could get a house for just the cost of the back taxes!!!
