Computer advice. I need a simple freeware program that will degrag my computer and give me some inlking as to where the hell all my space went. Preferably something visual and colorful and made for stupid people.

ccleaner is okay for defragging. I like Wiztree for visualizing hard disk space (and what directories are taking up the most)

yeah at the moment I have to focus on just getting stuff off. 19 GB of 588 GB isn't even enough space to defrag I think. I have no idea when or where or how it got this bad, but I need to make it last for another 6 months until I get my new dell

I've used it a lot on servers in the past so I knew exactly what you were looking for.

Please verify your download afterwards. The hashes of the setup file are: MD5: 3abf1c149873e25d4e266225fbf37cbf and SHA1: 6fa92dd2ca691c11dfbfc0a239e34369897a7fab. You can use File Checksum Integrity Verifier from Microsoft to verify the file hashes (the link describes how to use it to check file hashes).

do I need to do that? because that link doesn't explain it that well....

You can but it isn't a necessary step. It's a security precaution so you can confirm that you received the correct binary.

well apparently, I read more on the link they gave, and that program isn't really meant for win 7, it's for xp, 2000 and one other system that I don't have. It installed fine, and right now it's slowly working through the mess of my computer.

I've always been partial to this: http://www.uderzo.it/main_products/space_sniffer/

TurkedOut does it for a living though so his rec is probably better/more thought out.

Edit: I tried to nested quote that whole convo and failed.. LOL
