Same.. I was blissfully unaware this was a thing & now I'm sad I didn't waste $20 to play in the game lol.

Wrong kind of tat dude, these are specific to questionable life decisions at popular tourist destinations for high school / college kids...


Made by throwing a sticker / something on top of the skin to block the tan in certain areas, producing the above effect & temporarily marking the owner as "DTF" or at least marginally higher odds of making really poor decisions with the right amount of alcohol.

So, I think I've never actually been scared of someone while hiking UNTIL TODAY. Most hikers are pretty genial, a weird bunch (myself included- you've seen what I wear and that's nuff said), but harmless and friendly. HOO BOY. I pulled off to hit up a flat, short nature trail in the state park as a cool down and there was a dude just sitting on his car, wearing jeans in the little trail head parking lot- whatever, some people pull off from the freeway for a break there.

He asks me how long the trail is. Ok, weird you couldn't go read the trail sign 2 feet away, but ok. AND THEN HE GESTURES TO MY JEEP AND POINTS OUT TO ME THAT I'M ALONE IN AN AREA WITH NO CELL RECEPTION AND DO I FEEL SAFE? IT'S DANGEROUS AND WHAT WILL I DO IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME? WOULD "ANYONE NOTICE," IF I WERE HURT? I told him my husband knew where I was and would notice if I was somewhere else because I use sat tracking (mostly true anyway, my coordinates push to matt every 30 minutes or so when hiking).

I got the hell away from that creeper, assumed he would be gone when I got back, OH WAIT, he's still sitting there. No lies, had my keys in one hand and my pocket knife in the other. I saw some other hikers in the parking lot and promptly made conversation with them while I got to my jeep. WEIRDO STARED AT ME THE ENTIRE TIME!

Never in my life have I felt that uncomfortable like that with hiking. I've had nice conversations with folks in the middle of nowhere and I've met a lot of cool people hiking. That dude gave me massive heebie jeebies and I wasn't about to find out if he was just odd or if he wanted to shove me in his trunk. I was full stop gonna stab first, ask questions later if he came anywhere near me again.

So, sometimes I agree with you that outside is scary AF.

 

Go to your nearest movie theater. You'll thank me later.

There has to be an increased likelihood of serial killers and/or cartel activity in any given desert area, nah?

 

The dude I lost to in my other league started 2 players who are out for the season because he hasn't changed his lineup in like 3 weeks.

He still scored 122 points because several of his players decided to score like 3x as much as usual. Just my luck.

Actually, not really! The areas I hike in anyway lol. The PCT and most of the state parks and national forests around here have very little crime issues. I wasn't in some unnamed desert, I was in a state park you have to pay to be in. You're more likely to die falling off a cliff than a murderer.

The App Trail is way more dangerous and sketchy crime wise than PCT stuff. It's bonkers. I would not hike most of the AT alone because NOPE.

Now, the desert I directly live in? YES. It's a crime ridden hell hole here and that's why I live in a walled in development with cameras off a private road lol. I only walk down my neighborhood street and the private road with the other folks and the watchful eyes are upon you my friend.
