My friend's friend died and left behind her 10 year old dog so I'm talking to her about maybe maaaybe considering making it my new 10 year old dog, but the thing's name is Toby and all I can picture is

When my great-aunt died, we took in her dog and the poor thing never really warmed up to anyone else besides me. She was a total sweetie, though, better than being sent to a shelter at the very least. She used to come and just sit flush against my thigh when she wanted to be petted, but hardly ever made a sound.

 

The only real deciding factor is how he gets along with my dog. My dog is the definition of a beta, and loves other dogs, and hasn't been the same since my old girl died, so I'm confident he'd be fine. The other dog has been good around female dogs, but has never been around another male dog, so

Awww, what a sweetheart. That's so sad. Dogs are the best.

The lady's family all promised her up and down they'd take him in, but have now all decided against it. So much so that they're not even holding on to the dog to find a new home, and my friend ended up taking it with her in the meantime. He's well behaved, calm, friendly, and perfectly trained, they just don't want him. It's really heartbreaking.

 

Yeah, my doofus gets car sick so he can't go far, but he can make it to the park near me so I hope we can arrange a little walk there to see how it goes.
