The parts and duration of this study

    1. We will first collect some information about you (taking about 1 minute).
    2. You will then receive the instructions for the main task (prediction game) and can read them at your own pace.
    3. The main task will take about 15 minutes and requires that you repeatedly predict which of two events will occur. Correct predictions earn you small financial rewards.
    4. After the main task, we will ask some additional questions about your strategy (for about 2 minutes) and you will receive some numerical puzzles (for about 3 minutes).
    5. At the end, you will be debriefed about the study goals and receive your participation fee, plus your additional earnings accumulated during the task.
    6. Completing the entire study should not take you longer than 30 minutes.

You should have overdraft protection turned off unless you enjoy being robbed.

True. But then your debit card will get declined if you go over whats in your account. It's a weigh your options type of thing. With most banks you can tie your credit card to your debit account as a form of overdraft protection.

It's called "opting in" or "opting out" for reference.

Is the wiki not around anymore or do I just not have enough coffee in me to find it? I was going to point someone at it instead of explaining something.

Having your debit card declined instead of going through with it and getting slammed with a $35 fee is a good thing.

That's great, but the thing they paid would have cost me more if they'd not paid it.
My debit card does get declined when it would overdraft me. But it's the ACH stuff for bills that they send through and overdraft me. (which saves me money in the long run really.)

I wholeheartedly agree. But for some, what if you are stranded in the middle of nowhere and need gas for your car? I dont support fees in any way although i work for a bank, but I can see the uses. Either way, if you are not a repeat offender of the NSF(non sufficient funds) fees, you can often call your bank or go into a branch and explain the situation and they will usually reverse the fees up to a certain amount in a calendar year. It can be embarrassing, but shit happens. Suck it up and get your money back. When i worked at my last bank, there was roughly 150 bucks set aside for people for fee reversals. If you are however a repeat offender and have a tendancy to always overdraft, a banker/bank will be less willing to grant such an exception.
