Speaking from travel where I was told this more than once and family members flat off the boat, I would have gotten bludgeoned with a wooden spoon via Nana Bunny for ever suggesting the word pizza referred to anything other than pizza the dish. Torta is pie. Even focaccia is basically flat pizza bread. There are a variety of terms but pizza does not literally translate to pie, and that's probably why it says "uncertain origin," on that website. But, I honestly don't have the urge to debate pizza/let's not fight over delcious cheese and sauce covered bread, soooo let's not. Let's just eat it!
