    it's not so much that it's an issue, I just feel like I'm in the loser's circle when I find out other people aren't paying monthly 'maintenance' fees, but I have done so for years

    With some banks you can bypass minimum activity fees by automating push/pull ACHs it all depends on how the ACH is classified.

    I bank with CapitalOne. There are different banking packages. I just got the no minimum fee, no monthly fee, no deposit fee, 2% interest rate one. Disabled overdraft so I don't get hit with that fee accidentally.

    They do have a fee one for customers who just don't pay attention to these things and just go with whatever they get signed up for. I'd ask your bank if they have something for you without fees.

    Yes but some of the more fee laden banks also have some of the best signup bonuses, interest rates and customer perks. Though CUs tend to be more customer oriented for long term banking solutions.

    I guess I'm fine with it if I'm taking a month long vacation and adding $5 to it...I'm not likely to do that though.

    My previous bank were total scumbags (Key Bank) and it's not something likely to affect me, I honestly totally forgot about until we started talking about it here. :dunno:

    I use:

    USAA (you need to be military or military family though)
    Pen Fed Credit Union (military again)
    State Dept Fed Credit Union (brick & mortar + online, don't need be military)
    PNC Bank (brick & mortar + online, usually no fees)
    Ally Bank (online bank, I use them for savings, really good interest rate)

    I've never gotten any ludicrous fees from these banks.
