"HORRIFIC COLD NEXT WEEK: I want to continue reiterating how dangerous next week's cold is. This kind of airmass does not come into the United States all but once or twice a generation. This will be worse than 2014, and likely rival (or beat) the blast in 1994. Actual air temperatures will be double digits below zero, with daytime highs not hitting zero. It will be breezy all week, causing wind chill values (the temperature at which your skill feels the effects of) to be -40° or worse locally.

This blast of cold arrives Wednesday and moves out Saturday. This is 72-96 hours of brutal, record-breaking cold. Humans, pets, and livestock should not be outside for a prolonged period of time.

The reason I have been posting a week out is because I want EVERYONE to make plans. Make sure elderly are checked up on and have plans for them, make sure you have blankets/gloves/hats in the car, make sure you have a supply of water in case of disruption, etc. I want everyone to be prepared for this, because it is not your "average cold spell."

PS... I bumped these numbers up a bit. They are actually conservative to some computer outputs, meaning it's not out of the question it's a few degrees colder than this. Realistically, it doesn't matter at that range. It's air that is typically found in the North Pole/Antarctic."

 

I always thought the whole fear of water thing was very strange. What kind of symptom is, "shows panic when presented with liquids to drink" for a disease.
