I loved going to the hair dresser- it was a little luxury for me, which I can no longer afford, plus I'm in Florida now and none of the hairdressers here know how to work with curly hair. But I miss my Atlanta hairdressers.

I actually had a grown woman say "near" me once that women of a certain age shouldn't have curly hair, should go get it straightened as curly hair is only for young girls and makes older women look like they're trying too hard to look young.

I just smiled and said, "Just working with and being grateful for what God gave me!"

She was a "Christian" so I knew she couldn't say much back to that.

I'm sure she didn't like me wearing it down to my waist, either.

that's so awkward. i'm a firm believer in, like, not touching people? unless invited? like normal? but i'll sit there saying how badass it is, sorry

my hair is so fine that it does knot a lot. my dad used to pay my babysitters to come over and brush my hair because he didn't know what to do with it. a light wind would blow and bam, rats nest.

 

Yep, going to avoid all of that.

My heavy drinking days are done. I had a good run, lol. No regrets. Super glad when I was a lot younger we did not have cameras on our phones so there is no evidence of how classy alcohol made me.

 

The solution in my family was just braids. Up until the age where you're "too old" to wear braids like that, with the cheap plastic clips.

 

Knotted, straight, fine hair is the WORST. I've dealt with it, I know (not on my head, on the girls I helped raise.) (Though funny, one of those girls whose bio parents both have fine, straight hair now has curly hair like me...so I rubbed off, lol...)

I never comb my hair with tools. I use a pick to part my hair, but otherwise it's always my fingers to get out tangles or to separate the curls into something resembling not dreads. Even doing that I'll look at the back of my head once it's dry and exclaim, "WTF is that rope in the middle of my hair????"

 

All this curly hair talk is making me miss my pool. Can't wait to get it back up. Chlorine and my hair love each other. My curls look so much better in the summer!

 

When I was hugely pregnant (during both pregnancies) I would have people who would touch my stomach and those who would touch my hair because my hair looked A FKING MAZING when pregnant. No matter which way I turned, strange people would touch me. I have a severe case of RBF so I don't know what made them think I'd be ok with this.

Yeah, I still dislike it. To this day I usually just take a pair of scissors and do my own. Eventually I mess it up badly enough that I have to go for a professional cut. Lol, it still makes me angry though.
