So everyone knows my kid has dairy, egg and gluten allergies. The school knows, the teachers know, the lunch people know. This morning as a special treat in the classroom every kid got smoothies. EVERY KID IN THE CLASS. Except. My. Son. They didn't offer any alternative for him. Is it just me or is this pretty crappy? Is this normal? Am I fired up over nothing?

 

If you spend more than a few hours on mturk and end up with $17 you are doing something wrong.

I'd be pissed. They know by now and there's no excuse to make a kid feel that way just because of something they can't control. It's shitty enough not being able to eat everything that your friends can let alone not getting the nice reward/treat.

 

Who organized this? Was it a random parent who didn't know? If so, the teacher should have said something to that parent to be sure something was brought in for your kiddo.

If it was the school or teacher, I'd be extra pissed.

I'd still be a little mad if it was an oversight, but if they, like, brought in 24 smoothies and there are 25 kids in the class then they knew and I'd raise holy heck.

and edit: I say this as a mom who has brought birthday treats to school not knowing one kid had an "allergy" or "no tolerance" to/for what I brought, and if I had known I so would have brought something different for that kiddo!!! I felt HORRIBLE and brought that kid something special on a different day. Just that kid. No one else got a special thing.

 

It was the school. Not a parent. They ALL know about his allergies which is why they told him he couldn't have it in the first place. I'm just so angry. He already has a hard time with this cause it just came about a year ago, and things like this make him feel even worse.

 

Wasn't bad or brain hurting?
